During my stay in Vancouver, I decided to go skiing in a nearby Skiing area. After some research, I come across Cypress Mountain, which is the closest skiing area to Vancouver. It hosted the Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding events of the 2010 Winter Olympics.
From downtown, I take the Seabus to Lonsdale Quay in North Vancouver, where the private Cypress Mountain Express Bus departs. The bus ride takes about 45 minutes and costs $20 round trip.
Cypress Mountain has 6 chair lifts and 3 surface lifts. There are 53 Ski runs from green to black, and the longest run is 4.1 kilometers. Moreover, it has the largest night-skiing operation in Western Canada. Unfortunately, I had to leave before sunset, but I can imagine that it must be a very cool experience.
The snow quality at Cypress Mountain was pretty good, and the facilities were modern and clean. The personnel was well trained and always friendly and motivated to help. After a whole morning of skiing, I had lunch at the restaurant, which was really tasty and way cheaper than expected.
At Cypress Mountain, I especially liked that the queues at the lifts are short, and the pistes are not overcrowded. I never had to wait for more than two minutes, and the lifts are placed efficiently. All pistes are marked well, and maps throughout the area show you the different options.

My Hotel recommendation for Vancouver
I highly recommend the Pan Pacific Vancouver Hotel. It is conveniently located in downtown Vancouver overlooking the city’s magnificent waterfront and surrounded by the harbor, Stanley Park, and the Coastal Mountains. The hop on hop off bus departs just in front of the hotel, the 360° lookout is just a 5 minutes walk away, and the FlyCanada attraction is right behind the hotel. On the 8th floor, there is an outdoor pool and Jacuzzi. Try to wake up early and watch the sunset from the hot jacuzzi and enjoy the amazing view of the mountains. Read here what else to do in Vancouver.
