1. Shared Shuttle

The journey takes approximately 3 hours, and there is one rest stop along the way where you can stretch your legs and use the restroom.
Using this mode of transportation, you can easily travel safely and comfortably from your hotel in Liberia to your hotel, hostel, or rental house in Monteverde.
Multiple companies provide daily shuttle van and minibus transportation services, so check their schedules before buying tickets!

Private transportation directly to your hotel is the best choice for large groups or families!
Your private transfer departs whenever you choose, and you can plan your journey and make requests along the way.
The trip takes approximately two hours and 45 minutes. You will be dropped off directly at your hotel, Airbnb, vacation rental, or any other place you choose in Monteverde.
If you want to take a break, get something to eat, or take pictures of the scenery on your journey up the Monteverde mountains, you can make stops along the way. It will not be a problem for your driver to stop for you.

4. Rental Car

Take off on an adventure from Liberia by taking the Pan-American Highway south towards San Josรฉ. After passing through Bagaces, you will arrive at Caรฑas. Approximately 25 minutes later, you will reach the entrance to “Las Juntas.” Take a left here and proceed for an hour and a half until you reach Monteverde.
Alternatively, you can continue south to Sardinal’s entrance and turn left instead of taking Las Juntas. This will take a little longer, but the roads are much better.
Remember that you will not find paved or well-maintained roads in all parts of Costa Rica – not even in popular tourist destinations. Rugged terrains often lead to challenging adventures. Nevertheless, arriving in Monteverde at the end of the journey will make it all worth it!

5. Uber or Taxi

Lastly, taking a taxi is always possible. This is not our recommended method of transportation, but it is a feasible alternative.
You will pay more than you would for an arranged private transfer in Liberia, and you need to find a reliable taxi service.
If you take a cab, expect to pay about USD 150. In any case, always negotiate a price with the driver before you set off!
