When I booked the Summer Jo Sailing Whitsunday tour, I knew I was in for something special.

Summer Joy recently received a $1 million refit, making it a state-of-the-art vessel ready to navigate the stunning waters of the Whitsundays. Despite having about 30 people on board, the spacious design and intimate setting made it feel cozy and grand.

The adventure started in Airlie Beach, where our guide, Tom, greeted us warmly. Boarding the boat, we were ushered into our cabins—mine was a comfortable, air-conditioned haven with an ensuite, making it the perfect retreat after a day full of activities.

The crew, led by the yacht’s charismatic owner, immediately set a welcoming and fun tone with a safety briefing that was both informative and entertaining.

One of the trip’s highlights was the flexibility to choose between snorkeling and diving, catering to everyone’s preferences and experience levels.

I opted for diving, which came at an extra cost but was absolutely worth it. Despite the visibility not being the best on our first dive, the underwater world was still mesmerizing. The divemasters were knowledgeable and ensured we felt safe and informed before diving in.

The food on the yacht was another pleasant surprise. Considering the limited space, what the crew managed to whip up for 30 people plus themselves was impressive. Every meal was a delight, fueling us for our adventures and bringing us all together over shared stories and laughter.

Our itinerary took a slight detour due to high waves preventing us from reaching the Great Barrier Reef, but this did not diminish the experience.

The Whitsundays themselves are a paradise, and on the second day, we completed three dives in this mesmerizing setting, surrounded by schools of fish and vibrant reefs.

The visit to Whitehaven Beach on the third day was the cherry on top of an already perfect trip. It is ranked as one of the world’s top 5 beaches with silica sands.

The guides first led us to a fantastic lookout, and then we spent a few hours lounging on the beach and swimming in the waters.

Evenings on the Summer Joy were magical. The atmosphere was always incredible, whether it was a BBQ on the boat, playing games, or just enjoying a few drinks under the stars. The vibe on the boat was something I’ll always remember—everyone got along so well, and making new friends was so easy.

The Summer Joy’s amenities, excellent crew, and well-thought-out itinerary provided an unforgettable gateway to the Whitsundays.
